FPT and FBT brakes operate in the absence of power by acting on a disc. An electro-hydraulic brake lever is used to open the device, although derivative brakes with hydraulic or pneumatic release are also available. The range is completed with pressure-release hydraulic brakes and combinations of the latter, such as FPT and FBT brakes.
The three elements that make up the braking assembly are:
1) The FPT caliper, symmetrical and constructed of rolled steel or spheroidal graphite cast iron, allows braking torque to be adjusted. It also features a self-adjusting device for arms and pads.
2) The TURBEL brake lifter, with aluminum housings, a closed oil chamber independent of the engine chamber and tightness ensured by high-quality seals.
3) The solid disc, which can be fitted with a coupling. It is characterized by its low moment of inertia and high heat dissipation. The assembly (disc or coupling) can be supplied with a machined and dynamically balanced bore.
Both FPT and FBT brakes, as well as their derivatives, are equipped with stainless steel axles, self-lubricating bushings in the joints, and a torque control scale. The pads incorporate asbestos-free linings.
